Urban Farming is a 501(c)3 organization whose mission is to end hunger in our generation while increasing diversity and greening the environment. Community members in urban areas are brought together to plant food on unused land and space throughout America and abroad. People of all ages and backgrounds are taught about sustainability, team building, skills training, healthy eating, gardening, the environment, and self-sufficiency. Food gardens are also planted in schools and students are taught these valuable lessons. Students and neighbors are encouraged to share their healthy harvest (grown without the use of pesticides), with those less fortunate.
Urban Farming programs help to create a stronger community and safer environment. Food gardens beautify cities and help to lower the heat index to offset the effects of global warming. This year, Urban Farming has helped donate over 150 tons of fresh healthy produce to lower income families and local food banks across the US.
